Friendship Shelter

CLC has a long-standing relationship with the Laguna Beach-based Friendship Shelter, a 32-bed shelter and rehabilitation program for highly motivated homeless adults. The residents of the shelter are on their way back to productive lives, and each holiday season, the CLC community helps them on their way. Students learn about the Shelter from staff members who visit the classroom, then CLC families spend weeks planning and gathering the contents of gift baskets for each of the residents. The Annual CLC Giving Party is held just before the December break. It is a day when parents and children work together to create unique collections of such useful items as personal calendars, toiletries, socks, bath and hand towels and umbrellas accompanied by handmade, heartfelt messages from the children. Throughout the rest of the year, some CLC families choose to volunteer at the Shelter as Guest Chefs, making dinner for the 32 residents or handling service projects at the shelter.

This community connection and opportunity for generosity and caring action is a perfect example of how CLC inculcates compassion and the spirit of volunteerism.
